Whether its “Driving while Black”, sitting on the porch or walking down the street while Black, African American males in communities throughout the U.S. and abroad are routinely stopped, questioned and or detained by the police. While groups like the Department of Justice, American Civil Liberties Union (A.C.L.U) and state legislators continue to hold hearings and convene Task Forces the issue of “racial profiling” continues to be a major issue in communities of color.
The Dare To be King Model provides a series of intense workshop modules and products that teach African American adolescent males the “rules of engagement” in the community. The course addresses the following core areas:
· Search & Seizure
· Probable Cause
· The role of the community in reporting illegal police stops
· 10 Rules of Survival if Stopped by the Police
Often we never take the time to teach boys how to respond at the point of a police encounter. The Dare To Be King Curriculum realizes that teaching our boys how to respond to the police can ultimately save their lives.
